Help Block Twitter Spam
I've spent some time today looking for a service that lists all the spam bots on twitter and allows you to automatically block them all. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to find anything remotely like what I'm after, so I thought I'd start up a (horrendously basic) blog, and try to spread the word to see if anyone else had any feature requests before I start building it.
Now, obviously, I don't want to reinvent the wheel, but I tried all the sensible keywords in Google, but if this kind of service already exists, please let me know. If not, continue reading.
So, without further delay, here's a basic outline of what I envision happening:
- Categories for bots (retweet bots, request-only bots (like #lazytweet)), etc.
- Community-sourced list of bots, assigned into the above categories.
- People can then use the site to block all bots, or just certain categories.
As you can see, it's very vague. I've looked at the twitter API, and there is the ability to block users available, but I don't really want to have to require people to type their username/password into my site, as I know that will put a lot of people off. If it's possible to avoid that, I will. If not, I'm afraid you'll just have to trust me.
Now, I'm very interested in any feedback the "twitterverse" can give me, so I've set up a dedicated mailbox for this project alone. You can email me at twitblock@drarok.com and I'll get around to setting up a real blog (with a theme that doesn't make your eyes bleed) shortly.
Also accepted: suggestions for a name. If the domain name is already taken, then that might be a bit of a problem.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
